Lake Macquarie & District Historical Society Inc. conducts research, collects and exhibits the history of the Lake Macquarie area.

The Society’s principle aim is to record, collect, protect and promote the local history of Lake Macquarie and its surrounds.

Meeting Dates

Our General Meetings are held in The Heritage Centre, Old Toronto Railway Station, Victory Pde/Row, Toronto. Below Toronto Hotel on the waterfront on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 1pm.


In 1992 the society converted the disused and run down Toronto Railway station into the Lake Macquarie Heritage Centre. The Centre is open to the public and features themed displays, a research library, archive room and other facilities.


Research Facilities

Refer to our website. The Society has an extensive photograph collection, which can be seen during opening hours or at other times as requested. Some of these date back to the 19th Century. The photographs show the development of the area from then to now.
